April 2024

27.4.2024: Sascha Kaden lead two discussions on the topics: "Artificial Intelligence in Education, for Learning and Teaching" and "Human-Robot Interaction in Industry 5.0 and Care - A Look into the Future" at the TUC Open Day. The presentation can be downloaded here.
17.4.2024: The ROBOTOPICS exhibition by Holger Dreissig is taking place again. This time with an analogue discussion about the digital, AI and robotics. The exhibition can currently be visited free of charge at the Unibibliotek 1st floor(Straße der Nation 33, 0911 Chemnitz). The exhibition will be open for six months. For more info click here.
16.4.2024: The third Saxon AI Congress takes place. This year's congress dives into relevant AI topics, discussing how AI can bring real benefits to businesses and society, shifting the focus from mere impressiveness to meaningful applications. It's full of practical insights, discussions, and ideas, where Prof. Röhrbein is also invited as an expert to talk about our AI Lab at TU Chemnitz.
12.4.2024: MeTech offers a monthly lecture consisting of a 30-minute presentation and a further 30 minutes for questions and discussion. The lecture will start with Prof Röhrbein's presentation on "Neurorobotics for humans and technology".

March 2024

29.3.2024: Prof. Röhrbein has been nominated as leader of the working group "Neurorobotics" in the Science and Technology Commitee of EBRAINS Germany.
29.3.2024: Great news: Our project proposal CORINNE - Cobots’ Relational Interface with Neuromorphic Networks and Events will be funded by the BMBF.
15.3.2024: Our paper "Weight Perturbation and Competitive Hebbian Plasticity for Training Sparse Excitatory Neural Networks" has been accepted for presentation at the IEEE World Congress on Computational Intelligence WCCI 2024 to be held at Pacifico Yokohama in Japan.

5.3.2024: Another paper by Saranraj Nambusubramaniyan has been accepted for the 5th International Conference on Mathematics of Neuroscience and AI. His work "Beyond Adam: Achieving Biological Fidelity with Dopamine, a Reward-based Optimizer for Accelerated Gradient-Free Learning" has been submitted to the biocomputation track.
3.3.2024: Saranraj Nambusubramaniyan has been invited to the Cosyne Conference to present his work on "Asynchronous Derivative-Free Learning Solving Synaptic Credit Assignment in Recurrent Neural Networks".

27.2.2024: "LEAD: Learning Decomposition for Source-free Universal Domain Adaptation" has been accepted for CVPR, the most competitive conference in Computer Vision with an acceptance rate typically as low as 25%.
4.2.2024: Prof Röhrbein gives a lecture at the Children's University on the topic "Why children are smarter than robots".

January 2024

31.1.2024: Bastian Schindler is holding a practical project at Goethe Gymnasium Chemnitz. The aim is to give pupils a basic understanding of artificial intelligence, robot use and programming.  The aim is to use a basic AI as a connection between sensors and two electric motors to enable a mobile robot to drive autonomously through a labyrinth.
18.1.2024: Our paper "Asynchronous Derivative-Free Learning Solving Synaptic Credit Assignment in Recurrent Neural Networks" has been accepted to Cosyne 2024.

14.12.2023: We had our end-of-the-year event followed by a Christmas party and an open-ended visit of the local Christmas market!

23.11.2023: PartWiss conference takes place. Our PhD student Sascha Kaden and Karola Köpferl present results of their study on the topic: "Participating instead of accepting: Technology in the Everyday Life of Older People", a report from the city lab of TU Chemnitz.

30.10.2023 Our lab becomes part of the Intel Neuromorphic Research Community.

18.10.2023 Prof. Röhrbein was nominated to become a member of the Scientific Board of the Bial Foundation.

4.10.2023 Hybrid Societies Autumn school takes place, it will include scientific workshops (e.g. on sensors) and panel discussions with senior and mid-level (CRC) researchers, focusing on career paths after the PhD within and outside academia. There will also be sessions to present and further discuss ideas on how and in what form the research topics of the CRC can be continued. See the whole programme here.

23.9.2023 The annual Petersberg talks invite you to think, reflect and reconsider. This year's title is "Horn of plenty - or a field of unsolved problems? Timing, Antifragility and Sustainability in the Era of Deep Tech". Prof Röhrbein will give a general lecture on neurorobotics and how this field combines brain research, cognitive science and robotics.

14.9.2023 Our master student Oyunbat G. has received a PROMOS scholarship from DAAD for a semester abroad at Nagoya University (Japan).

28.7.2023 Our paper "The BCM rule allows a spinal cord model to learn rhythmic movements" has just been accepted for Biological Cybernetics!

27.7.2023 Paper accepted for IEEE RO-MAN workshop on "Care Robots for Older Adults" on 28 August in Busan South Korea.

18.7.2023 Our Master's student Joris Liebermann demonstrated the Neurorobotic Mouse with functional whiskers at TU Dresden's Reinforcement Learning Research Group. The presentation highlighted a simulation approach where a Reinforcement Learning agent processes tactile data to decide actions.

12.7.2023 Successful project submission of PaxUnpARiA (Participatory exploration of possible technical support for caring relatives and elders to mitigate the risks of old-age security) by Jun.-Prof. Andreas Bischof, Karola Köpferl, Sascha Kaden and Prof. Florian Röhrbein to the Forschungsnetzwerk Alterssicherung FNA.

5.7.2023 During the project day with students from Reichenbach Gymnasium, they had the exciting opportunity to program the navigation of a small mobile robot. They also had the opportunity to learn more about the fascinating subjects of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Robotics. The event aimed to engage and inspire the students in the fields of AI and robotics.

Die Veranstaltung diskutiert die Vor- und Nachteile der fortschrittlichen Chat-Technologie und wie sie sich auf den Mittelstand auswirkt. Prof. Dr. Florian Röhrbein wird als Referent auftreten und sein Experten Wissen zu diesem Thema teilen.
