Application for a doctoral degree programme

To enrol in a doctoral programme, please apply online via our application portal. Students at TU Chemnitz who wish to take up a doctorate following their studies and enrol as a doctoral candidate should apply via the SBservice under the quick link ‘Application’.

Application for enrolment in the doctoral programme is possible at any time.

Requirements for enrolment

Doctoral candidates are persons who have been admitted to the doctoral programme by the relevant doctoral committee. Enrolment in the doctoral programme is possible once written notification of admission to the doctoral programme has been received. Enrolment must take place if admission to a graduate programme has been granted or the applicant is a doctoral candidate at a graduate college in the Free State of Saxony.

Duration of enrolment

As a rule, doctoral candidates can be enrolled for a period of up to three years. Extensions must be applied for and confirmed by the chair of the relevant doctoral committee.

Limited enrolment

If the written notification of admission to doctoral degree programme has not yet been received at the time of enrolment, you can apply for limited enrolment for one semester. In this case, you must submit the application for limited enrolment as doctoral candidate, the regular enrolment application and all other documents required for enrolment to Student Service of TU Chemnitz and transfer the semester fee. The written notification of admission to doctoral studies must be submitted to the Student Service of TU Chemnitz by the end of the first semester at the latest. Continuation of enrolment is only possible with proof of admission to doctoral studies.
