GAMM Activity Group "Dynamics and Control"

The GAMM Activity Group Dynamics and Control (GAMM Fachausschuss Dynamik und Regelungstheorie) is a working group within the GAMM (Gesellschaft für Angewandte Mathematik und Mechanik). Its members come from mathematical systems theory, control engineering, nonlinear dynamics, vibration theory, and multi-body dynamics, with applications spanning mechatronics, energy systems, robotics, autonomous driving, and aeronautics. Regular exchange across these areas encourages lively discussion and new collaborations, helping to bridge applied mathematics, mechanics, and engineering.

The unifying theme is the rigorous mathematical analysis of dynamical systems and their control. Alongside classical questions, topics of growing importance include the analysis and control of systems over communication networks, cyber-physical systems, and the combination of established control-theoretic approaches with machine learning and artificial intelligence.

A central goal of the committee is to strengthen cooperation between mathematics and engineering and to support early-career researchers. To this end, it organizes workshops twice a year, bringing together faculty, doctoral researchers, students, and participants from industry to present current results, discuss new developments, and initiate joint projects.

As of July 2026, the activity group has more than 150 members from academia and industry.

The group organizes two workshops per year and coordinates the activities of Section S20 at the Annual Meeting of GAMM.
