TUC & Across

Chemnitz University of Technology is shaping the future of higher education together with nine European partner universities as part of the European University Alliance Across. More than 30 staff and students are working in 16 international task teams on innovative solutions in the areas of education, research, innovation, governance and social engagement. The aim is to create new impetus for the university – and real added value for all involved.

This team is responsible for refining the long-term strategic direction of the alliance. It develops concrete processes and protocols for collaborative governance and defines strategic priorities in areas such as participation, sustainability, climate action, multilingualism, and more.

Task Team 2.4 – Across Border Teacher Training AcademyThis team equips academic staff with the skills and tools needed to implement student-centred, challenge-based, and flexible teaching methods. It fosters intercultural, comparative, and digital pedagogy while building connections to secondary education and regional topics.

This team fosters a cross-border R&I network through the Across Knowledge Creation Teams, engaging early-career researchers (ECRs), students, citizens, and socio-economic stakeholders. The activities focus on legal, environmental, social, and economic challenges pertinent to border regions, aligned with regional Smart Specialisation Strategies (S3) and the development of future European Innovation Valleys.

This team develops and transforms research and innovation (R&I) competence training into Open Educational Resources (OER) within the framework of the Across Graduate School. It empowers master’s students, PhD candidates, and early-career researchers (ECRs) to actively engage in all stages of research and offers transdisciplinary training aligned with the alliance’s four strategic focus areas.

This team establishes a network of pop-up centers across border regions to connect universities with local stakeholders—such as businesses, authorities, and citizens—through workshops, challenge teams, and innovation-driven activities. In addition to physical centers, a digital engagement center will be created to facilitate continuous collaboration and interaction across borders. The team also leverages participation in the European Capitals of Culture 2025 and integrates initiatives like the Across Business Gateway and Incubator Hub to foster innovation led by students, staff and citizens.
