Professur EXSE
Unser Arbeitsgebiet ist die Optoelektronik, spezialisiert auf spektroskopische Untersuchung der physikalischen Eigenschaften von Halbleiter-Bauelementen. Bei Leuchtdioden (LEDs) unterstützen wir die Entwicklung hocheffizienter Lichtquellen im sichtbaren und ultravioletten Spektralbereich. Unsere Expertise bei Laserdioden ist die Charakterisierung und Simulation der dynamischen Eigenschaften. Unsere Forschungsaktivitäten entstehen im Kontext mit Anwendungen in der Sensorik, Medizin, Allgemeinbeleuchtung und Automobilindustrie.

Xth Winter Workshop Kalatówki 2026
The X Winter Workshop took place from March 15 to March 20, 2026, in Kalatówki, Zakopane, Poland. The workshop is organized by the Institute of High Pressure Physics of the Polish Academy of Sciences and was attended by research groups from Poland, Germany, Sweden, and Finland. The event focuses on nitride semiconductors, with particular emphasis on AlInGaN-based light-emitting structures. It provides an excellent platform for phD students from various groups to exchange ideas and fosters networking among students and researchers. This year, Danylo Bohomolov, Jannina Tepaß, and Prof. Schwarz participated in the workshop and presented exciting new results in their talks.

PhD defense Katharina Kunze
Katharina Kunze succesfully defended her phD Thesis on the topic "Microoptics for multichannel laser-to-waveguide coupling in optical cochlear implants" on February 26th, 2026. We warmly congratulate Katharina on her graduation and wish her all the best for her future career. She will be greatly missed by all of us.

On February 6, 2026, the master’s students of the “Physik und Sensorik” module presented their projects. As part of the course, they were tasked with developing a prototype of a sensor-based system. This year, a wide variety of project ideas were showcased, featuring sensor systems with potential applications in laboratories, healthcare, and schools, as well as in the field of music.

SPIE Photonics West 2026
The annual SPIE Photonics West conference took place in San Francisco from January 17 to January 23, 2026. As in previous years, the event featured a wide range of exciting contributions from the fields of photonics, as well as medical applications presented during the BIOS conference days. This year, Prof. Schwarz contributed a talk on the topic of noise in LEDs, offering valuable insights into current research developments in this area.
