Exploitation - Prospects of Success

Once the Jet-PeP process has been developed, wide of profile of applications of technology. Jet-PeP has all benefits of the conventional PeP such as usage of nontoxic electrolytes, creation of smooth surfaces with adjustable nanoscale properties and without mechanical forces on the part, no tool wear etc., but it creates the enormous benefit of providing the required scale of current for larger parts. It can locally machine complex parts such as 5-axis milled, casted or AM / 3D printed parts as well as small or fragile structures.

Users will be companies buying the service of polishing on the one hand and customers setting up their own machine on the other hand. As general markets the medical is certainly one that benefits from the PePs inherent sterile process; but all areas demanding deburred, polished or glossy surfaces in metal parts are relevant.

The project addresses a technological sweet spot in today’s markets. Local surface smoothing / functionalization at reasonable cost (vs. i.e. Laser-based or vacuum processes) without mechanical processing is highly anticipated but currently not available. Since the consortium is comprised of partners along the value chain, a successful industrial implementation after the project end is secured.

By means of a cooperative working relationship the partners will acquire wide-ranging competencies in the fields of surface functionalization and process design for plasma electrolytic polishing. With this view the knowledge base of the partners will be further developed and the project will intensify and stabilize the relationship between the project partners and their cooperation on the international level.
