Mehrdad Hajizadeh holds a Master's degree in Information and Communication Systems from the Technical University of Chemnitz, Germany. He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. with a research focus on offensive cybersecurity and adversarial machine learning. His work adopts cutting-edge generative AI technologies, such as GANs and large language models (LLMs), to solve complex cybersecurity problems. Passionate about defending against cyber threats, he specializes in malware traffic analysis, Domain Generation Algorithm (DGA), Command & Control (C2), Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS), and 5G/6G security. Mehrdad has established collaborative research partnerships with various industrial and academic institutions within Europe, including Dacoso GmbH, Rohde & Schwarz, TU Darmstadt, the Hasso Plattner Institute, Ravensbourne University London, Trinity College Dublin, and the University of Würzburg, and Czech Technical University in Prague.
  • Leveraging Adversarial Machine Learning (AML) and red teaming techniques to assess and improve the robustness of machine learning-based network intrusion detection systems.
  • Applying Large Language Models (LLMs) to detect sophisticated cyber threats in the Security Operation Center (SOC).
  • Developing ML-driven approaches to detect malicious network activities such as command and control (C2) communications, suspicious DNS behavior, and data exfiltration attempts.
  • Investigating attack vectors in the control and user planes of 5G networks to enhance security and mitigate emerging threats.
  • SENDATE (Secure Networking for a Data Centre Cloud in Europe). European Celtic-Plus project funded from 2016 till 2019 by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research BMBF (Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung). Project status: Completed. Role: Research Assistant.
  • AI-NET-PROTECT (Artificial Intelligence Networking Providing Resilient and Secure Networks to Critical Infrastructures).
