Student Assistant (HiWi) – CAD Design / Brazing / Coating Experiments

Offer for a Student Assistant (HiWi)

Job Description:

We are looking for a motivated Student Assistant (HiWi) to support ongoing research projects in the field of materials science and joining technology, with a primary focus on component design and brazing-related experimental investigations. The main tasks include the design and development of experimental fixtures, sample geometries, and supporting components using CAD software (SolidWorks and/or Fusion 360). In addition, the student will assist with experimental work on brazing processes, CVD coating processes, metallographic preparation, and microstructural characterization in the laboratory. The position combines design-oriented engineering work with hands-on experimental activities and scientific evaluation. Occasional literature research and preparation of technical reports based on experimental results will also be required. The student assistant will work closely with the researcher and contribute to different research projects, with the majority of tasks focused on CAD-based design and brazing experiments.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Design of experimental setups, fixtures, and components using SolidWorks and/or Fusion 360
  • Preparation and execution of brazing and coating experiments
  • Metallographic sample preparation and microstructural characterization
  • Assistance in mechanical and microstructural analysis
  • Literature research related to materials and joining processes
  • Documentation and structured reporting of experimental results

Requirements:

  • Master’s student (m/f/d) in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgy, or a related field
  • Very strong CAD skills (SolidWorks and/or Fusion 360)
  • Interest in experimental and research laboratory work (brazing, CVD, metallography, characterization)
  • Structured and independent working style
  • High level of motivation and reliability
  • Very good English skills (mandatory)
  • Good German skills (beneficial)

Employment Details

  • Working time: up to 30 hours/month
  • Initial contract duration: 3 months
