FRICO 2018 will take place from Tuesday 21st to Friday 24th of August 2018 at the Professorship of Algorithmic and Discrete Mathematics of the Chemnitz University of Technology.

The workshop aims to bring together young researchers and to encourage an exchange of ideas. Since the FRICO is organized by PhD students for PhD students (but students and postdocs are also welcome), discussions in a relaxed atmosphere are characteristic for this workshop.

FRICO is a workshop in the original sense of the word. Each participant gives a presentation to achieve a high level of interaction and creativity. In addition, as in previous years, we are also planning an Industry Day, where lecturers from industry highlight applications of combinatorial optimization in practice. In accordance with this tradition, FRICO is limited to 30 participants.

We encourage the submission and presentation of own results (even work containing gaps and unsolved problems) from various areas of combinatorial optimization. The best talk is awarded by the participants.

We are looking for (but not exclusively) topics from the following fields:

  • Discrete Mathematics und Combinatorics
  • Linear, Semidefinite and Mixed Integer Nonlinear Programming
  • Graph Algorithms
  • Randomized Algorithms
  • Approximation Algorithms
  • Online Optimization
  • Applications of Combinatorial Optimization

In order to enable students and young researchers without large financial means to participate in FRICO, participation will be free of charge. Only the travel and accommodation costs will have to be borne by the participants.

FRICO 2018 is the 22nd workshop in a series of successful events. Under the heading History you will find some information about the origins of FRICO as well as about the last locations and previous winners of Best Talk Award.

From our point of view the workshop was very successful and we thank our industry partners SIEMENS and INFORM for their support. It gave us great pleasure to organize the FRICO 2018. We had many great talks and enjoyable get-togethers in the evenings. In addition, some mathematical ideas and mysteries were discussed, the city of Chemnitz was explored and finally friendships were made. We will keep this week in good memory.
This year Stephan Beyer from the Osnabrück University got the award for the best talk.
Thanks to all participants again and see you in Kaiserslautern next year!
