Professorship for Machine Tools and Forming Technology

Division Machine Tools

Vision

The Division Machine Tools at the Professorship for Machine Tools and Forming Technology Regards Itself as:

  • competence partner in research, education and industry for machine tools of cutting and forming
  • competence partner for the preventive and experimental property analysis of machine tools
  • scientific team for research, development and application of innovative components in machine tools
  • competence partner for energy-efficient drive systems in machine tools
  • research team for precision machines
Research Focuses

Research Topics in the Division Are:

  • functions, design and properties of components for machine tools (guides, axle drives, main drives, motor spindles, auxiliary drives, tool change, part exchange, fixtures)
  • preventive and experimental property analysis of machine tools (models and measuring techniques for the geometric, static, dynamic, thermal and acoustic performance)
  • development of methods for energy efficiency (drive systems, accounting, superconductivity)
  • thermal analysis of machine tools (thermal cell)
  • structural design, simulation and virtual prototyping of machine tools
  • process integration and automated micro-assembly (production systems)
Target Groups

In the context of fundamental and applied research, the division Machine Tools is a technology and competence partner for companies in industry and the public sector. Its services include the development of user-specific designs, the prototype implementation of new applications and consulting services in the selection or the introduction of innovative tools. Within the student education, lectures as well as numerous interdisciplinary student research papers, project theses and master's theses are offered. In addition, there will be workshops, discussions and demonstrations, intended to communicate the potential of machine tools to a wide range of users.
