Vision

The Virtual Reality Center Production Engineering (VRCP) at the Professorship for Machine Tools and Forming Technology Regards Itself as:

  • interdisciplinary communication platform for research, industry and education
  • center for development and application of VR technologies focusing on mechanical engineering and production technology from product and process design up to factory planning
  • innovation center Virtual Reality in Saxony

The VRCP includes the divisions Virtual Product Development and Process Informatics.

VR Systems

The VRCP Owns Modern High End VR Systems:

  • 5-sided CAVE (passive stereo backward-projection, optical tracking)
  • Powerwall (passive stereo backward-projection, optical tracking)
  • L-Bench (table-shaped projection system, active stereo backward-projection, electro-magnetic tracking)

High-performance computer cluster to realize the VR projection. The Cluster contains 13 workstations, configurated to control the projection systems parallel as well as separatly.

The mobile Virtual Environment moVE (passive stereo backward-projection, optical tracking) enables location independant VR-presentations. It is easy to transport and ready to use alternatively to present VR data.

Research Focuses of Division Virtual Product Development

The Research Focuses are:

  • product visualization
  • interaction
  • 3D real data
  • simulation and virtual prototyps
  • method development
  • interface development
  • training applications

Target Groups

The VRCP is a technology and competence partner for companies for applied research projects. The competences include the development of problem specific software solutions, prototypical realization in case of new developments and advisory services for the installation and configuration of innovative VR systems.

The course „Virtual Reality Technologies in Mechanical Engineering“ gives students the opportunity to learn the VR basics. The VRCP offers a wide range of project, seminar, bachelor, diploma and master thesis. Furthermore there are workshops, expert discussions and demonstrations to provide the potentials of VR technologies to a large audience.
