The demand for well-trained mathematicians in industry
is increasing. Therefore, the Faculty of Mathematics
is continually improving and modernising
its facilities in order to offer its students the best
prospects for the future. Engineering and science
students, who also need a good foundation in mathematics,
can also profit from the excellent conditions.
This interdisciplinary co-operation continues in the
area of research. The Faculty of Mathematics is
home to several German Research Foundation (DFG)
projects, many of which also involve the Faculty of
Natural Sciences. Students can thus choose programmes
which combine their mathematical skills
with engineering or business subjects. The Faculty
of Mathematics is equipped with an extensive and
modern computer network and provides students
with excellent access to technological resources.
These superior study conditions are complemented
by close contact with professors and tutors.
The International Combined Master s and PhD Programme
in Mathematics leads to a recognized Master
of Science (MSc) degree after four semesters
and to a doctorate (PhD) after six additional semesters,
and allows participants to specialize in various
mathematical fields. The international nature of this
study path is further demonstrated by the fact that a
number of lectures are delivered in the English
language.
