The reasons for leave of absence have to be proven by appropriate certifications.
An application for leave of absence can be submitted due to the following reasons:
A leave of absence can be granted up to a total of two terms. Normally it will be conceded for one term. Periods of maternity or parental leave, nursing of own children, own illness, accomplishment of a statutory compulsory service as well as leave of absence for the purpose of studies abroad will not be taken into account within these two terms.
The application for leave of absence has to be submitted within the re-matriculation period for the respective term but at latest two months before the beginning of term, in case of illness or pregnancy at latest until the end of term. Leaves of absence for preceding terms or for the first term are principally not allowed.
During the leave of absence the rights and duties of the students, with the exception of the obligation to study properly, are not affected.
During the leave of absence it is allowed to accomplish academic achievements and examination performances at the university.
Terms of leave of absence are not regular terms and therefore shall not be taken into ac-count within the calculation of the duration of study.
Even in the case of leave of absence the re-matriculation is indispensable.
