20 - 22 March 2014, the Transnational Career Service Conference took place at TU Chemnitz. About 60 representatives from 9 European countries got together to pursue one goal: to strengthen the bonds between Career Services from all over Europe in order to provide students with even more opportunities for a successful career entry.

In sessions of project reports and workshops, the participants exchanged their experience and ideas on joint projects on a transnational level. In addition to the different ways to promote the students` employability skills through individual career counselling and soft-skills workshops, the question of how to finance the services for them was discussed.

Furthermore, the project partners of the Transnational Career Service presented the achievements of the past two years. The objective of the project, which ran under the motto "Career Without Borders”, was to improve career perspectives for students of the Saxon-Czech cross-border region. Aside from Dr. Christian Genz of the Career Service at TU Chemnitz, Vice-Dean Jaroslav Demel/TU Liberec (Czech Republic) and Vice-Rector Prof. Jirina Jilkova/Jan Evangelista Purkunye University Usti nad Labem voiced their opinion about the successful work. "For us, this conference was the ideal platform to establish more international contacts. We had the opportunity to illustrate the achievements of this cooperation and found the conditions for doing so organized perfectly,” says Vice-Rector Prof. Jilkova.

The other participants were also impressed with the conference programme and the hospitality of Chemnitz. "In my opinion, there was a thorough exchange of information as well as many new aspects and proposals to internationalize Career Services,” feedbacks Thomas Böhm, representative of the German Rectors` Conference (HRK). Apart from the project reports and workshops prepared by experts, a guided city walk as well as an official welcome by deputy mayor Petra Wesseler of the Urban Planning Department were especially well-received. The conference dinner at Café Michaelis offered a worthy setting for informal exchange and intensive networking.

"Our conference was a great success not only on an organizational level but also regarding the results. Now, we need to use the new impulses in our daily work, maintain our new contacts, and implement ideas for future project,” reflects Dr. Christian Genz, Head of the Career Service at the TU Chemnitz. The contributions and results of the weekend will be published in the conference proceedings. Particularly the collected ideas for future joint projects as well as thoughts on the "Future Career Service” will be of interest for European Career Service experts.

The Transnational Career Service is funded by the European Social Fund and the Free State of Saxony.
