News of the Department

Initiation of an Erasmus+ partnership with the Universidad de León, Spain

Prof. Schumann, Head of the Department of Sports Medicine and Sports Therapy at Chemnitz University of Technology, visited the Faculty of Physical Activity and Sports Sciences at the University of León in Spain last week. The aim of the visit was to initiate an Erasmus+ partnership and thus open up new opportunities for students at Chemnitz University of Technology to spend time abroad in Spain as part of their studies and to promote the exchange of teaching staff. The cooperation with the University of León is based on a long-standing research collaboration between Prof. Schumann and Dr. Daniel Boullosa. With a focus on classical sports science and a close connection to one of the most important high-performance centers in Spain, this will offer supplementary study opportunities in the future. As soon as the partnership has been formally confirmed, interested students will find further information on the website of the Institute of Human Movement Science and Health.

Opening of the Huawei Health Lab in Helsinki (Finland)

In his role as co-coordinator of the INTERLIVE® network (www.interlive.org), Prof. Moritz Schumann was invited to participate in the opening of the Huawei Health Lab in Helsinki at the end of last year. The INTERLIVE® consortium comprises 6 leading European universities and focuses on the measurement accuracy of sensors worn on the body (i.e. wearables). As part of a possibly new funding round, Chemnitz University of Technology may also participate in the consortium as an official partner.

Run against cancer

The Department of Sports Medicine and Exercise Therapy at the Chemnitz University of Technology has been supporting the "Run against cancer" running event organized by the Saxon Cancer Society for several years. The donations collected at the event benefit various projects supported by the Saxon Cancer Society. Among other projects, a project of the Verein für Gesundheitssport und Sporttherapie Chemnitz e.V. "Expansion of exercise programs for children, adolescents and adults with cancer" was funded in 2023. PD Dr. Dr. Nico Nitzsche from the Department of Sports Medicine and Exercise Therapy was present at the handover of the cheque to VGS Chemnitz e.V. together with the Managing Director of the Saxon Cancer Society, Dr. Porzig.
