History of the Professorship of Measurement and Sensor Technology

June 1992

Dr.-Ing. Wolfgang Manthey is appointed to the newly advertised professorship of measurement technology at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering.

1994 First doctorate after the appointment of Prof. Wolfgang Manthey of Mrs. Adriana Tamachkiarowa on the topic "Investigations on the realization of a fiber-optic temperature sensor."
1995 Professorship participates in the first established Collaborative Research Center at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering DFG 379 in two subprojects, A5 positioning system and B1 sensor/actuator arrays using piezopolymers.

April 2004

Prof. Manthey retires.

2004-2007

Professorship remained unfilled despite the ongoing appointment process. Professor Manthey secured the lectures for the most part.

October 2007

Dr.-Ing. Olfa Kanoun has been appointed to the professorship of measurement and sensor technology.

December 2007

Dr.-Ing. Nils Krömer is appointed honorary professor for "Industrial Metrology."

Beginning 2008

Restructuring of the Chair of Measurement and Sensor Technology; formation of three scientific working groups on the topics of "Impedance Spectroscopy," "Energy Harvesting," and "CNT Sensor Technology."

Mai 2008

Professor Kanoun wins the IEEE Best Chapter Award for the German Chapter.

2008

Professor Kanoun is appointed to the Board of Directors of the Center for Microtechnologies.

2008

Change of the professorship to the Institute of Microsystems and Semiconductor Technology in the context of restructuring the faculty institutes.

June 2008

The workshop "Impedance Spectroscopy" was launched and held for the first time, initially in German. More than 100 guests from research and industry attend. It is decided to continue this workshop annually.

July 2008

A second event on impedance spectroscopy was held together with RKW Sachsen at TU Chemnitz.

2009

First doctorate at the professorship for measurement and sensor technology after the reoccupation in 2007 of Dr.-Ing. Andrey Tetuyev with the topic "Soil type independent soil moisture measurement by impedance spectroscopy."

September 2009

The workshop "Impedance Spectroscopy" is internationalized and takes place for the first time at the TU Chemnitz. It will be called "International Workshop on Impedance Spectroscopy." Funds from the SMWK support the internationalization of IWIS.

Election of Professor Kanoun as Vice Dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology.

Professor Kanoun is elected as a senator of the TU Chemnitz.

December 2009

Participation in the BMBF competence network Nanett for nanosystem integration - application of nanotechnologies for energy-efficient sensor systems.

Initiation of the taster school "Electrical Engineering and Information Technology" for students from 10th grade and before.

June 2011

Professorship initiates and coordinates the Chemnitz initiative Technologies for Electromobility "CITE."

August 2011

Move to the renovated premises in the Weinholdbau on the second floor.

January 2012

Start of the junior research group "Adaptive Drives for Electromobility" coordinated by the professorship with 9 young scientists from three faculties of the TU Chemnitz.

2012

Participation in the first EU project, "SmartLIC" (Smart Battery Management System Module for Integration into Li-Ion Cells for Fully Electric Vehicles), within the European Green Cars Initiative.

March 2012

A partnership of the TU Chemnitz with the university "Ecole Nationale d'ingénieurs de Sfax (ENIS)" (Tunisia) is initiated.

March 2012

International Conference "Systems, Signals and Devices" takes place for the first time in Germany at the TU Chemnitz with more than 300 participants. Many colleagues from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering actively support the conference.

Professor Kanoun is designated "Associate Editor" for the scientific journal "IEEE Sensors Journal."

2013

Together with colleagues and partners, Professor Kanoun initiated the "Circle of Experts in Impedance Spectroscopy (CEIS)."

2013

Approval of the large-scale equipment "Multifunctional Impedance Measuring Station," including an "Atomic Force Microscope (AFM)" by the DFG as large-scale equipment.

Establishment of the Master's program "Embedded Systems" at the TU Chemnitz and at the University "Scole National d'Ingenieurs de Sfax (ENIS)" in Tunisia.

Professor Kanoun becomes Vice-Chairman of the Technical Commission 19 of the "International Measurement Confederation IMEKO."

2013

Start of the Transnational Young Researchers Group: Autonomous Intelligent Sensor Networks in Production (AiS) with Italy and Spain.

2014

The 5th Symposium, "Environmental Instrumentation and Measurements," of the Technical Commission 19, IMEKO, will occur September 23 and 24 in Chemnitz at the TU Chemnitz.

24. October 2014

Professor Kanoun founds the "IEEE Student Branch" of the TU Chemnitz together with students of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering.

2015

Professor Kanoun is elected to the scientific advisory board of the scientific journal "Technisches Messen."

July 2016

Start of the junior research group "High-tech sensor technology for the challenge posed by demographic change in Saxony (SenseCare)."

August 2015

Professor Kanoun is honored by the Tunisian government for "outstanding scientific achievements and accomplishments."

The German side designates Professor Kanoun as head of the "Brazilian-German Frontiers of Science and Technology Symposium (Bragfost)" organized by the Humboldt Foundation.

Prof. Dr. Olfa Kanoun has been appointed Distinguished Lecturer by the IEEE Instrumentation and Measurement Society.

International IEEE Workshop on the Use of Nanotechnologies in Measurement Nanofim 2016 is organized by the Chair of Measurement and Sensor Technology.

The Impedance Workshop IWIS celebrates its 10th anniversary at the TU Chemnitz.
