Researcher (m/f/d) in Audio Engineering
(Salary grade E 13 TV-L, 50%)
Chemnitz University of Technology invites applications for a position as a researcher (m/f/d) in the Collaborative Research Centre (CRC 1410) Hybrid Societies – Humans Interacting with Embodied Technologies. Employment is offered from May 1st, 2020, until December 31st, 2020.
Research Environment and Tasks: Research in the CRC 1410 Hybrid Societies pertains to the interac-tion with Embodied Digital Technologies (EDTs) as artificial bodies moving in real or virtual environ-ments (www.hybrid-societies.org). Interdisciplinary research in the CRC is guided by two leading questions to ultimately ensure smooth and efficient encounters between humans and embodied technologies in hybrid societies: What is required so that humans can coordinate with EDTs as smoothly as with conspecifics? How to design EDTs to meet these requirements? Cooperating re-searchers from psychology, engineering, computer science, human movement science, language and gesture studies, sociology, law studies, physics, and mathematics scientifically inquire the interaction of humans with EDTs from the level of single actions up to the attribution of intentionality.
The successful applicant will be responsible for implementing 3D audio setups in virtual environments used in the CRC 1410 Hybrid Societies, specifically in the Gait Realtime InterActive Lab (GRAIL). This includes (i) comprehensive hardware testing and improvement, (ii) software interface design in interaction with the manufacturer, (iii) stimulus design, implementation and testing, (iv) workflow optimization to support the experimental needs in the CRC, and (v) initiation of exemplary research projects using the optimized audio setups. The applicant will have access to state-of-the-art equipment to implement the sound setups and to conduct their research. Researchers in the CRC Hybrid Societies contribute to the CRC’s joint research activities and actively participate, for instance, in research colloquia, lecture series, and workshops.
- university degree (M.Sc. or equivalent) with specialization in Audio Engineering,
- documented experience in acoustic characterization of audio reproduction techniques and in hardware/software adaptation towards specified performance goals,
- documented experience with 3D audio components of virtual reality scenarios,
- documented experience in a research field related to auditory perception / psychoacoustics,
- high proficiency in at least one programming language (MatLab, Python, etc.),
- documented experience with working in multidisciplinary teams,
- fluent in English (both written and spoken).
