Server Settings - Options for Web Authors
The Apache web server offers web authors a number of possibilities, which are presented here. To see a complete description, please refer to the Apache Server documentation.
These control options are set in a .htaccess
file. These instructions usually apply to all files in this directory and all subdirectories. See also: Settings for individual files
- Access control: authentication and authorisation
- Access to WWW documents can be restricted to certain computers/domains or by requesting an identifier. By using the Web Trust Center, a reader only needs to authenticate once.
- Displaying directory lists
- As an author, you can control how an URL pointing to a directory should be handled. You can determine how a directory list should look (icons, title and footer text, size, modification time and short description) or whether only a specific file should be displayed.
