Better Together Than Alone

Even during the lecture-free period the Lern|Raum is there for students with its offerings in all study phases and all departments

For several semesters, the Lern|RAUM of Technische Universität Chemnitz has supported students of the Faculty of Mathematics and related fields with preparing and reviewing lectures, exercises and mathematical challenges with its employees and tutors of the BMBF-funded “Quality Pact for Teaching (TU4U)” project. Since summer semester 2015, the employees of TU4U are also available for students of the Faculties of Behavioural and Social Sciences, Economics and Business Administration, as well as the Faculty of Humanities in case of questions on scientific papers, study techniques, work organization and issues arising in the day-to-day life of a student, providing information and answering questions. “The close cooperation with the advisors of the Quality Pact for Teaching, the University Library and the university faculties creates various offerings in the Lern|RAUM for all students of the TU Chemnitz“, concludes Ulrike Bergmann, Lern|RAUM organizer at the TUC.

The Lern|RAUM provides a location for students to study together, to discuss and internalize lecture contents or get support with preparing scientific papers. Room 505 is available all day long on the fifth floor of the Campus Library I in the Pegasus Center.

Students can receive specialist support from academic staff and tutors in the Campus Library I as well as in specialized rooms for preparation for mathematics exams. Students may also receive suggestions on dealing with small or bigger problems for finishing assignments, questions on writing term papers and theses, working and studying techniques or even general questions about their studies. The University Library team also supports and offers advice on database searches and literature research in each respective subject during regular office hours of subject specialists, specialized courses or library tours.

The Lern|RAUM as a platform promotes studying partnerships of students with the same objectives in study content or in exam preparation. Numerous workshops, in which study skills are acquired and deepened in a practical way, encourage individual study success. Workshop participant Hanan Fischer says: “There are just so many things that you don’t know at the beginning of your studies. How do you work academically? How do you write a term paper? The workshops are big help in these cases.“ Only a few more places are still available for the lecture-free period. Lern|RAUM organizer Elisabeth Eckelmann says that the offer will be expanded in the new semester due to high demand, and that there will also be support for international students.
