New appointments to the university

As of October 1, 2021, three professors were newly appointed to Chemnitz University of Technology by the President.

Prof. Dr. Batu Güneysu has been appointed to the Faculty of Mathematics at Chemnitz University of Technology as of October 1, 2021. There, he heads the tenure-track professorship in analysis funded by the Federal Program for the Promotion of Young Scientists (WISNA).

Prof. Dr. Matthias Schönbeck was appointed to the Professorship of Didactics Of Economics, Technology, Household And Social Affairs at the Center for Teacher Training on October 1.

Prof. Dr. Ralf Zichner will head the Professorship High Frequency Technology at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology – also from October 1, 2021.

Batu Güneysu studied mathematics at the Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main and graduated with honors. He then worked as a research assistant in Frankfurt before moving to the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität in Bonn as a Hausdorff fellow for his doctorate. In 2011, Güneysu received his Ph.D. with a dissertation on "On the Feynman-Kac formula for Schrödinger semigroups on vector bundles." The dissertation received the grade "summa cum laude".

He then moved to the Humboldt University in Berlin, where he took up a position as a research assistant. In 2017, he received the teaching qualification for the subject mathematics. The basis was his habilitation thesis on "Covariant Schrödinger semigroups on non-compact Riemannian manifolds".

This was followed by deputy professorship appointments, including 2018 to 2019 for the subject of Pure Mathematics at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn, 2019 to 2020 for the subject of Differential Geometry at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, and 2021 for the subject of Mathematical Statistics at the University of Potsdam.

The subject of his current research is, among other things, integration theory on infinite-dimensional spaces, including, for example, so-called "loop spaces". In addition, Güneysu is engaged in the study of the connections of this theory with quantum mechanics and geometry.

About: Prof. Dr. Maththias Schönbeck

After completing a carpentry apprenticeship, Matthias Schönbeck studied architecture at the HTW Dresden and vocational education at the universities of Weimar and Erfurt. This was followed by a traineeship at the Walter Gropius School in Erfurt.

He then moved to the Institute for Vocational Specialties at the TU Dresden as a research assistant. He then took over the management of a private vocational school and in 2009 completed his doctorate on design and design-related issues in the painting and varnishing trade at the TU Berlin. He then moved to the Institute for Vocational and Industrial Education at Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg as a research assistant. In 2011, he took over a Professorship For Technology Didactics at the Koblenz University of Applied Sciences, before he followed the call to the Chemnitz University of Technology on October 1, 2021.

At the Center for Teacher Education at Chemnitz University of Technology, Mr. Schönbeck will devote himself primarily to the further development of approaches to teaching action in the context of sustainability. His research interests lie in the investigation of systemic methods and teaching procedures as well as addressee-oriented approaches to technical development. These include, for example, aspects of repairing technology, cultural elements of access to technology, or the consequences of digitality on the learning of elementary school students.

Matthias Schönbeck chose the Chemnitz University of Technology on the one hand because of the good reputation of the Center for Teacher Education within German teacher training. On the other hand, his professorship enables him to develop an innovative research area within the framework of technical education.

About: Prof. Dr. Ralf Zichner

Ralf Zichner studied electrical engineering in the field of information technology at Chemnitz University of Technology. In 2013, he was awarded his doctorate with a thesis on High-frequency communication of printed antennas in challenging dielectric or metallic environments, also at Chemnitz University of Technology. The thesis was awarded the distinction summa cum laude.

Subsequently, he took a position as a research associate at the Professorship of High Frequency Technology and Theoretical Electrical Engineering at Chemnitz University of Technology. In 2008, he moved to a position as a research associate at the Professorship of Digital Printing Technology and Imaging Technology at Chemnitz University of Technology. Ralf Zichner has been working at the Fraunhofer Institute for Electronic Nano Systems ENAS in Chemnitz since 2009. In 2017 he took over as head of the Printed Functionalities department of Fraunhofer Institute ENAS, before assuming the Professorship of High Frequency Technology at Chemnitz University of Technology on October 1, 2021.

His research focus is primarily on high-frequency technologies for next generation wireless communication. His work also focuses on the development of novel antenna systems that can be applied, for example, in cyber-physical systems or intelligent systems, in next-generation mobile communication devices (6G), and in wireless sensor systems.

Ralf Zichner is active in various committees, including the VDE Association for Electrical, Electronic & Information Technologies. He is as a technical committee member of the VDE-ITG Technical Committee 7.5 Wave Propagation, reviewer and member of the editorial board of the Springer journal Microsystem Technologies elected member of the Scientific and Technical Council of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, spokesperson of the OE-A Working Group Hybrid Systems in the VDMA, and a board member of Organic Electronics Saxony e. V.
