"Sabres" is the Hebrew designation for cactus fruits which have on the one hand a spiky exterior but a surprisingly sweet interior on the other. This is also the self-perception of many Jews born in Israel: From their point of view, their ancestors not only have settled down in but also have cultivated the desert Palestine. However, more and more dark colors are mixing in that picture since the Jewish State is appearing as an occupying state. How does it feel to grow up in a country where the Jewish hegemony is replacing, excluding and silencing the Arab population? And where a Jew nowadays may become local - in Israel, Palestine, Germany?
Tomer Dotan-Dreyfus writes the history of his family overshadowed by the Holocaust and tries to get at the bottom of Israeli founding history at the same time. His grandfather participated in the Nakba, however, the expulsion of the Palestinanians was called "liberation" later on. Which role did the grandfather really play in 1948? In the book Keinheimisch souvenirs from childhood are merging with reflexions on history, literature and politics. An emotional narration on narratives and the question on how far one may trust them.
Tomer Dotan-Dreyfus grew up in Haifa, Israel, since 2011 he lives as author and translator in Berlin. He writes constantly about Israel and Palestine as well as about antisemitism in Germany. His articles were published i.a. by the Süddeutsche Zeitung, taz and Berliner Zeitung. His first novel Birobidschan (Voland & Quist) was placed on the longlist for the German Literature Prize 2023.

On March 3, 2025, a renowned cardiologist was found dead in his apartment at Chemnitz. Six weeks later, the first suspects were arrested. At the beginning of 2025, the trial started at the district court. The experienced trial reporter Gabi Thieme is tracing this case in her newest true crime-book from the first investigations up to the verdict and explores the background of a crime which evoked the attention of and was shocking the nation.

Closed Venerological Stations - behind this cumbersome word series hides a chapter of GDR-injustice which is not yet well-explored. By accusation of being contaminated by a sexually transmitted infection, tenthousands girls and women from twelve years on were involuntarily hospitalized in closed clinic areas for several weeks. There, they were day by day exposed to sexualised violence and a rigid disciplining and punishment system. The presentation provides an overview on this topic and presents current research results for the Karl-Marx-Stadt district. The presentation is held on this evening by Konstantin Wiesinger, scientific staff member of the Learn and Memorial Center Kaßberg-Prison. The presentation is elaborated in collaboration with Chemnitz Adult Education Center and the Institute for Political Science of Chemnitz University of Technology. The entrance is free of charge.
