The exhibition „Starts – Changes: A Dialogue between Bremerhaven and Chemnitz” was organized by the Professorship Human Geography with a focus on European Migration Studies jointly with the German Emigrants’ House Bremerhaven on the occasion of the year of European Capital of Culture.
It invites to re-explore history and shows how migration from the 19th century on was and still is characterizing life and identity of both of the cities.
The exhibition may be visited until 28.11.2025 in the “Common Area” (ground floor, east wing).

Angela Malz Email PhoneThe exhibition shows posters and photos of the heritance of the GDR-journalist Klaus Steiniger (1936-2016), who was reporting from Lisbon for the newspaper Neues Deutschland. It is embedded in the event series “Shared Stories” inviting to explore the interrelations between GDR, Portugal and the anti-colonial liberation movements of the years 1970 in a new way. The focus of the series is put on the interaction of local and global developments, their reciprocal influences and their sustainable impacts. The exhibition may be seen until the 12.12.2025 at the wall gallery of the exhibition space on the 1st level of the University Library Building.

Let yourself be swept away into the fairytale world of Chemnitz!
The fifth Chemnitz Fairytale Competition in 2025 was completely new in many ways: a new publisher, a new jury, and new prizes!
The result is four stories by authors between the ages of 18 and 44, showcasing Chemnitz at its most enchanting, magical, and sometimes even bewitching.
The fifth Chemnitz Fairytale Book will premiere on December 6th at the Chemnitz University Library.
