The working group Traction Mechanisms and Tribology is part of Professorship of Materials Handling and Conveying Engineering of Professor Dr.-Ing. Klaus Nendel at the Institute of Materials Handling, Conveying and Plastics Engineering (ifk) of the Chemnitz University of Technology. Within the scope of the professorship "development and dimensioning of continuous conveyors and other technical parts of logistic systems", our group is working on the following subjects:
|Development and research of traction-and load-bearing mechanisms preferable made of plastic||Dimensioning basics for traction- and load-bearing mechanisms and whole continuous conveyor systems||Research of fundamentals regarding friction and wear of slide-pairings in conveyor systems|
Our specific know-how concerns conveyor chains made of plastic. We support our project partners from development, manufacturing of prototypes, execution of tests down to the development of principles for basic sizing. The examination of materials' behaviour concerning friction and wear plays a particular role. We develop materials with lower friction and conduct research about designs focusing on the decrease of motion resistance.
