Welcome to the Chair of Intercultural Communication
We live in mobile worlds. Migration and digital media have made us increasingly interconnected on a global scale, forcing us to rethink the dynamic cultural and social settings of globalisation and ask ourselves: How can we understand ‘culture’ and ‘communication’? How do transnational, i.e. cross-border, practices influence our everyday lives and identities? These are some of the topics we deal with. We critically question changing perspectives on culture, communication and interculturality, and analyse these terms and their use in different social contexts and fields of work (such as the media, public authorities and companies).
Our degree programmes Bachelor's in Intercultural Communication and Master's in Intercultural Communication/Intercultural Competence are interdisciplinary and research-oriented. At the same time, the focus is on empirical approaches and practical relevance, and we value critical reflection on our own intercultural experiences (including a semester abroad in the Bachelor's programme).
