Vacancy: Lecturer in TESOL/ Advanced Academic English

The English Department at the Chemnitz University of Technology seeks to appoint a lecturer in TESOL/ Advanced Academic English as of the 1st of October 2018.

You will have a PhD in a relevant subject area and teaching experience in second language teaching and learning. You must have an excellent understanding of critical, practical and theoretical issues relevant to second language teaching and learning, with an established research record in this area, and a willingness to take responsibility for innovative, research-led, course development. An affinity with empirical studies is preferred. You are also expected to contribute to the Faculty’s effort to strengthen links between the humanities and technology by engaging with the social- and cognitive sciences and the related field of the Digital Humanities.

The selection criteria for this post are as follows:

Essential criteria the postholder must be able to demonstrate:

  • Research experience in the field of second language teaching and learning (e.g. processing of complex language structures using digital methods such as reaction time and eye tracking, cultural and intercultural understanding, the mental lexicon, etcetera);
  • the ability and willingness to attract external research funding;
  • a strong publication record- and teaching record.

Desired criteria the postholder will have:

  • an international background and experience in teaching/research in a international settings;
  • relevant teaching qualifications;
  • the ability and willingness to engage in further education and development;
  • the ability and willingness to use new forms of teaching and learning;
  • the ability and willingness to engage with both internal and external stakeholders.

You will initially be employed for a period of four years, which can be extended by a further two years on the basis of an interim evaluation.
