Profile and Research

Language, as the quintessential cultural achievement of humankind, is a prerequisite for all other cultural achievements, including science and technology. As a linguist, I focus on that aspect of the human-technology complex that is always taken for granted: the role of language in scientific and technological innovation, the storage and transmission of scientific and technical knowledge, and human-technology interaction—including hybrid forms. Questions of concept formation and terminology are therefore just as relevant to me as, for example, linguistic approaches to science and technology education, strategies for fostering acceptance of technical innovation, or tactics of disinformation regarding scientific and technological contexts. As the holder of the Chair of German as a Foreign and Second Language, I am particularly interested in ensuring that, in this age of migration, educational institutions provide the linguistic foundations that enable people—regardless of their background—to assess technical solutions, make use of them, and contribute to innovation. I am the contact person for these issues at MeTech.
