Profile and Research

As the holder of the Chair of Physics of Cognitive Processes (PHKP), I study visual perception and attention using methods such as eye tracking, visual psychophysics, and pupillometry. A particular focus of my research is on the processing of natural stimuli and (gaze) behavior in the real world. To bridge the gap between experimentally well-controlled scenarios and real-world situations, I employ various forms of virtual reality, sometimes in combination with actual movement and its precise tracking. In terms of applications, I am particularly interested in attention orientation during human-machine interaction. My research aligns with the core focus of MeTech, specifically the “Sensory Perception and Cognition” area. The intersection of sensor technology and cognitive psychology also forms the core of my teaching activities, particularly within the degree program of the same name (SeKo). I am a member of MeTech because it offers the prospect of a long-term institutional framework for collaborations that have developed at Chemnitz University of Technology.
