Promotion of Rico Drehmann

On 11 September 2017, Rico Drehmann defended his dissertation entitled „Adhesion mechanisms of cold-gas-sprayed aluminium coatings on ceramic surfaces“ with distinction. Using high-resolution analysis methods, Dr Drehmann was able to prove that the adhesion of these cold-gas-sprayed coatings to the ceramic substrates is not only due to the expected mechanical bonding, but also to heteroepitaxial growth of the aluminium on the ceramic surfaces. Substrate temperature, thermal effusivity of the substrate material and the particle size of the coating material were identified as the most important factors influencing the strengthening of this adhesion mechanism. The high-resolution optical investigations were carried out in collaboration with colleagues from the Institute of Materials Science at TU Bergakademie Freiberg.
