Invitation to the Summer School ‘Modelling & Simulation in Materials and Surface Engineering’
For the second time, a summer school on simulation in materials and surface technology will take place from 29 September to 2 October 2025 at the Chair of Materials and Surface Technology at Chemnitz University of Technology. The four-day workshop is aimed at master's students at Chemnitz University of Technology, particularly those studying ‘Advanced Functional Materials’ and ‘Advanced Manufacturing’, in order to address the specific needs of teaching.
In recent years, the demand for reliable models and simulations in materials and surface technology has risen dramatically. Simulation of heat conduction, wear processes, phase changes and galvanic deposits, right through to the calculation of the service life of workpieces, is playing an increasingly important role in the design of workpieces and the selection of materials, as well as in the design of surfaces and production facilities.
The summer school teaches the basics of finite element simulation for heat conduction, strength calculations, wear simulations, galvanic deposition and data acquisition. The course takes an application-oriented and practical approach. The respective fundamentals are taught in theory lectures, after which the input data required for the simulation is measured in the laboratory. In the afternoons, there is a simulation practical session in which students learn how to use common simulation software such as Comsol, Abaqus, JMatPro and FESafe on practical examples.
We cordially invite TUC students to participate in the course. The Opal course is accessible via the following link and QR code. Students on the waiting list may also be considered.
