Presentation of the status of the „REDUCE“ project at Vitesco Technologies (part of Schaeffler AG)
In order to discuss interim results from the „REDUCE“ project with those responsible at Vitesco Technologies (VT) and to plan further steps, employees from the Human-Cyber-Physical Systems (HCPS) department visited the VT production halls in Limbach-Oberfrohna again on 29 October 2024.
In the BMBF-funded joint project „REDUCE“ (Resource Efficiency Derived from User-Centred Engineering in Industrial Production) focuses on reducing resource consumption in industrial production. Through human-centred digitalisation measures, a human-machine interface is to be developed and tested by summer 2025 that enables employees to save energy in the production process by visualising resource consumption and presenting options for action. A production test line at VT was selected as a pilot application area in previous steps, which is well suited for testing the interface due to its particularly high resource consumption and the central role of humans in operation. Through observation interviews with employees at various levels of production, concrete options for action and opportunities for saving energy were identified, which should now enable and motivate employees to save resources using suitable visualisations. A scientific evaluation of the human-machine interface in real operation will take place next spring.
We would like to thank the employees of Vitesco Technologies for the – as always – helpful discussions and insights and are looking forward to the further results!
