WOT scientist reports at the renowned TSS Open Mic Series of the American Society for Metals
The online conference "TSS Thermal Spray Open Mic Series" provides a platform for students and aspiring professionals in the thermal spray industry to meet established experts, leaders and innovators in the field face-to-face. The series aims to promote the international exchange of knowledge, facilitate discussions on career development and provide information on the latest advances, techniques and challenges in thermal spray technology.
The last online conference took place on 21 February 2024. Bianca Preuß from the WOT was one of three doctoral and postdoctoral students who reported on their careers and the reasons for their specialisation in the field of thermal spraying. The three contributors were selected by the organisers of the „TSS Thermal Spray Open Mic Series“ due to their international role model effect, especially for the next generation of the industry. For Bianca Preuß, this was due to her performance in the Young Professional Session at the International Thermal Spray Conference ITSC 2023, where she received the Audience Award. Her report was followed by 60 listeners from 25 countries, representing universities and research institutes as well as companies.
The entire recording of the session, entitled „Navigating Tomorrow: Insights from Engineering Trailblazers in Thermal Spray“, can be viewed at the following link: https://www.asminternational.org/tss-open-mic-series/past-sessions/
Background of the TSS Open Mic Series:
Now in its 4th season, the event series has been instrumental in creating an environment that promotes the international exchange of ideas and collaboration between thermal spray stakeholders, ultimately contributing to the growth and development of the global thermal spray community. Prof Bertrand Jodoin from the University of Ottawa was instrumental in developing the idea for this platform during the coronavirus pandemic. Since then, it has been held at regular intervals several times a year by the Thermal Spray Society (TSS) of the American Society for Metals (ASM International). The organising team also includes Charles Kay, President of Hannecard Roller Coatings, Inc. and First Chairman of the TSS, and Prof. Rogerio Lima, Senior Research Officer at the National Research Council of Canada and moderator of the TSS online conference" Thermal Spray Open Mic“.
