Excursion to the company Winning Plastics & SMK GmbH

On 16 January 2024, students had the opportunity to visit the company Winning Plastics – SMK GmbH as part of the WOT lecture „Electrochemical Coating“.

In the Electrochemical Coating lecture, which was also offered in English for the first time this year, students are presented with the broad spectrum of electroplating technology, from the basics and standard processes to special applications of chemical and electrochemical deposition. In addition to practical courses and seminars, an excursion to Oberlungwitz to the large electroplating company Winning Plastics – SMK GmbH took place this year. Special thanks go to Denny Kunadt (in the picture 2 from left) who, as Production Manager Electroplating, presented the processes in place there. The participants were able to experience the electrolytes and technology up close by gaining access to the electroplating facilities. During the tour, the students were able to familiarise themselves with the entire spectrum of contract electroplating, from rack assembly to quality control, rack production and waste water treatment. The exclusively positive feedback from the students indicates a successful excursion that successfully bridged the gap between theory in the lecture theatre and the practical possibilities in industry. We are already looking forward to the next visit.
