Doctoral Seminar 2023 – Where do I stand on the way to a doctorate?
This year, too, it was „The same procedure as every year!“. Internal and external doctoral candidates accepted Prof. Thomas Lampke's invitation and presented the current status of their doctoral projects from 10.07.2023 – 12.07.2023. At present, 29 young researchers are pursuing a doctorate at the Chair of Materials and Surface Engineering or a habilitation. As some of them are already close to completion, 17 doctoral candidates were invited to give a lecture and participate in the discussion. Strengthened by the feedback of their doctoral supervisor Prof. Lampke and selected experts, the doctoral students can now pursue the next milestones of their doctorate.
The doctoral students, Prof. Lampke and internal and external peer reviewers met for the professional discussion at the university's Erfenschlag campus. Despite the summer temperatures, many interested scientists followed the presentations on the current status of the respective doctoral project. Particularly important for the doctoral candidates was the subsequent discussion with their supervisor and the experts. Open questions were clarified and the next steps on the way to a completed doctorate were discussed. The doctoral seminar thus provides ideal conditions for the young researchers to critically examine the progress of their doctoral project. This makes the big goal of a doctorate tangible and the necessary steps to achieve this goal transparent for each individual. Since the doctoral candidates are at different stages in their doctoral projects, young researchers were able to benefit from the approach of candidates who are more advanced in the doctoral process and thus take away further important input for their own doctoral ideas.
The lively discussions between the doctoral students, Prof. Lampke and the peer reviewers continued after the first day of the seminar with cool drinks and a delicious dinner at Diebels Fasskeller. The fruits of the successful doctoral seminar can be admired again next year when the motto is: „The same procedure as last year!“.
