Positive response at the 28th Leipzig DGO specialist seminar

On 9 March 2023, the 28th Leipzig Specialist Seminar took place at the Congress Center Leipzig. After the two-year break due to the pandemic, more than 200 participants and 42 exhibitors accepted the invitation of the DGO district groups Saxony and Thuringia. The Chair of Materials and Surface Technology at Chemnitz University of Technology was also part of the event.

Even if the number of visitors to the event did not yet reach the pre-Corona level, they still sent a clear signal of the interest in the important topics of electroplating and surface technology and the desire for direct contacts and face-to-face discussions. Prof. Thomas Lampke, head of the WOT professorship, led through the lecture programme in the morning. Dr Roy Morgenstern opened the afternoon with a lecture on „Automated Electrolyte Development – Possibilities and Perspectives of Robot-Assisted Electroplating“ about the electroplating robot available at the professorship, which was awarded the Leipzig Electroplating Prize in 2021. The structure and mode of operation of the robot-assisted electroplating system and the resulting opportunities for electrolyte development were presented. The first results came from the project „REACh-compliant corrosion protection by pulse plating (ReKoPP), where Zn-Fe-Mo alloy layers were deposited. In addition to the industrial exhibitors, research institutions also had the opportunity to present themselves and their work. Dr. Roy Morgenstern and Lars Lehmann were in charge of a stand with three poster contributions and various illustrative material. In addition, a poster with results from the joint project „GaGoKom“ on electroplated gold deposition was shown together with Mittweida University of Applied Sciences. This allowed the time in the breaks to be used for intensive discussions and talks.
