Excellent review makes advanced plasma technology accessible to a wide professional audience

The review „Introduction to Plasma Electrolytic Oxidation—An Overview of the Process and Applications” describes the electro- and plasma-chemical fundamentals of the process, discusses the current state of research and, in cooperation with the German specialist companies Aalberts Surface Technologie, INNOVENT and MEOTEC, gives concrete examples of applications.

Plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) is a wet-chemical surface engineering process in which spark discharges are used to generate protective or functional ceramic coatings on the component surface. The process has a decades-long tradition at the TU Chemnitz and has been a research focus at our professorship since the mid-2000s.

The aforementioned review paper from 2020 has now been awarded the "Coatings 2022 Best Paper Award". The authors are now each offered the opportunity for a further, free peer-reviewed and edited open access paper in the journal „Coatings“.

We are very pleased about the award and thank the reviewers for their decision. We would also like to thank the Coatings editorial team for their support in publishing the article.

The prize paper can be found at: Frank Simchen, Maximilian Sieber, Alexander Kopp and Thomas Lampke. Coatings 2020, 10(7), 628; https://doi.org/10.3390/coatings10070628

It is - together with another excellent paper - also available via the press release of „Coatings“: https://www.mdpi.com/journal/coatings/awards/2000
