International exchange in the field of thermal spraying and build-up welding at the ITSHC
On 22/23 September 2022, experts from science and industry presented current developments and research approaches in the field of thermal spraying and build-up welding at the international ITSHC in Wrocław, Poland. The two plenary lectures at the opening of the conference were given by Prof. Dr Lech Pawłowski and Prof. Dr Shrikant Joshi, who spoke earlier this year about the Visiting Scholar Programme of the TU Chemnitz taught and researched at the Chair of Materials and Surface Engineering (WOT). The WOT team contributed to the ITSHC with four scientific lectures and participated intensively in the extensive discussions. Special thanks go to the organisers for organising and running the conference, which was very successful in terms of content and organisation.
During the two-day symposium, current development trends on new filler materials and their manufacturing and processing possibilities were reported in two parallel sessions. In addition, topics of generative manufacturing, in particular 3D printing, were dealt with. In the extensive discussion rounds after the respective technical presentations and during the evening event, a lively scientific exchange was cultivated. The technical discourse deepened existing contacts and made new ones possible. Contributions on ultrasound-assisted powder production processes met with particular interest. The special process conditions make it possible to produce spherical powder in a narrow fraction width. In addition, internal porosity and satellite formation are reduced to a minimum. The process is thus ideally suited for the production of powdered filler materials for thermal spraying and laser cladding. In order to continue and intensify this lively exchange of ideas, the following has been agreed for the Materials Technology Colloquium to be held in March 2023 WTK in Chemnitz, which met with a positive response among the participants. For the first time, fully English-language sessions on surface technology topics are to be held. This also opens up the local specialist conference, which has been established for years, to an international circle of experts.
