Awards at this year's Surface Days
Part 1: Promoting young talent and the Galvano Prize
With 515 participants, almost 90 specialist lectures, stands from 65 exhibitors and overwhelmingly positive feedback, the ZVO Annual Congress more than fulfilled expectations. As the largest event for electroplating and surface technology in Germany, the congress took place again – as usual and proven in presence – at the Congress Center Leipzig.
DGO Young Talent Award 2022
At the opening event of this year's Surface Technology Days, the Chair of Materials and Surface Technology (WOT) had two pleasing items on the agenda. One of these items is the awarding of the Young Talent Award. The 2022 Young Investigator Award presented by the German Society for Electroplating and Surface Technology (DGO) was awarded to two papers this year. One of the award winners is Dr Johannes Näther from Mittweida University of Applied Sciences for his dissertation on the topic of „Electroplating of iridium from hexabromoiridate electrolytes“. The thesis was written as part of a cooperative doctorate between the WOT Chair at Chemnitz University of Technology and Mittweida University of Applied Sciences.
Leipzig Galvano Prize
Another very pleasing point is, after a delay caused by the coronavirus, the recognition and presentation of the certificate and medal of the Leipzig Electroplating Award 2021. The Leipzig Electroplating Award, which is awarded by the DGO, recognises companies and research institutions that have been able to transfer innovative research and development results into practice. In 2021, the project consortium under the scientific leadership of the Chair of Materials and Surface Engineering was awarded the prestigious Leipzig Electroplating Prize for its work on „process and electrolyte development with the aid of a fully automated, robot-assisted electroplating system“. Further information – also on the project content – can be found in the official press release of the TU Chemnitz at https://www.tu-chemnitz.de/tu/pressestelle/aktuell/10574 .
