Successful participation in hybrid conference: The WOT professorship at the ZVO Surface Days 2021

After a break of one and a half years, the annual congress of the ZVO (Zentralverband Oberflächentechnik e.V.) took place again as a hybrid edition from 22 to 24 September 2021. More than 350 participants attended in person and virtually and learned about technological developments, trends and innovations in electroplating and surface technology in the 48 specialist lectures or at the stands of the 42 exhibitors. As the largest event in electroplating and surface technology in Germany, the congress was held for the first time as a combination of online and face-to-face event.

The WOT professorship again participated actively in the Surface Days. In the session „Results from research – Young colleagues report“ on the diagnostics of plasma electrolytic oxidation processes. In the session on „Wear Protection“, research results on the presentation of REACh-compliant Fe-Cr-Ni alloys as well as project results on wear investigations on heat-treated electroless nickel coatings were presented to the expert community. The contributions of the professorship met with diverse interest directly on site and were intensively discussed online as well as offline.

In addition to the opportunity for discussion and exchange with representatives from industry and science, the newly established R&D forum of the DGO (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Galvano- und Oberflächentechnik e.V. - German Society for Electroplating and Surface Technology) was used for the first time this year to explore current and future intersections between research and industry. To this end, the WOT Chair presented a planned research project on the direct electroplating of conductively printed 3D components as part of a science pitch. In the subsequent discussion with the company representatives present, intersections in terms of content were identified and possibilities for cooperation were discussed.
