Promotion by Rico Drehmann


On 11.09.2017, Rico Drehmann defended with distinction his dissertation thesis entitled „Adhesion mechanisms of cold gas sprayed aluminium coatings on ceramic surfaces“. Using high-resolution analytical methods, Dr. Drehmann was able to demonstrate that the adhesion of these cold gas sprayed layers to the ceramic substrates is not only due to the expected mechanical interlocking, but also to a heteroepitaxial growth of the aluminium on the ceramic surfaces. Substrate temperature, thermal effusivity of the substrate material and the particle size of the coating material were identified as the most important factors influencing the enhancement of this adhesion mechanism. The high-resolution optical investigations took place in joint work with colleagues from the Institute of Materials Science at TU Bergakademie Freiberg.
