Objectives / Contents
Knowledge of the design, mode of action and construction of tools for sheet metal and solid forming is imparted. The special features of the respective forming process will be dealt with. The required forming forces and the forming work are determined and the kinematics of the forming machine are considered as essential parameters for tool design. Calculation methods for tool design, choice of materials and economic aspects of tool design are explained.
Learning outcomes
After completion of the course, the students are able:
- Describe the structure and application areas of different tool types,
- To derive the requirements to be met by the tools due to the stress caused by the forming processes,
- Select materials, surface treatments and coating systems for the active tool elements,
- To carry out the calculations required for a design,
- To construct a cutting tool as an example.
