Gautschfest at the pmTUC
Though the pmTUC does not print like in medieval times anymore, it still celebrates a very old costum that goes back to the 17th century. On July 4, the students and staff of the Institute for Print and Media Technology celebrated the annual Gautschfest - the printer's traditional initiation festival. During this ancient ceremony students and staff members are thrown into a tub of cold water and have to drink some spicy liquid. When they have passed and survived this test they become full members of the printers' guild. This year, the lucky ones who got forcefully submerged in the tank where Nicole Sülflow, who had just finsihed her printer apprenticeship, as well as Stefan Pletschacher, Lutz Engisch and Heiko Kempa. Norbert Rothenberger, printer at MAN Roland, whose actual task was to configure the new DICOWEB printing press at the pmTUC, was also admitted into the printers' guild by Gautschmeister Prof. Beier.
