Professorship for inverse problems


Research in our group is focused on two main themes: Nonlinear partial differential equations and Inverse Problems (parameter identification).

Partial Differential Eqauations

The mathematical modelling and analysis of systems consisting of many interacting particles is an important research topic in applied mathematics. Classical examples are often motivated by physics. In recent years, also models of the socio-economic behaviour of large populations have sparked a great interest.

We are in particular interested in systems of (nonlinear) cross-diffusion type in which the mathematical analysis is usally challenging due to the lack of maximum principles and other means to get a priori estimates.

Inverse Problems

Here our main focus lies on parameter identification in non-linear PDE modells, e.g. identifying a nonlinear diffusion coefficient from measurements of the solution of the PDE.
