A stay abroad has to be well prepared if one wants to avoid unpleasant surprises. One of the main aspects is to fulfil the formal requirements concerning entry of and stay at the respective host country.

For citizens of Non-EU-countries especially the visa is a very important document for which one has to apply before entering Germany. However, the right visa is an indispensable precondition for the application for a Residence Permit in Germany.

On the other hand citizens from EU-member countries do not need neither a visa nor a Residence Permit for Germany.

The information which can be called up by following the different links of this category shall serve as first hints concerning the legal basics and necessary documents during entry of and stay at Germany. But they do not substitute the obligation to contact as early as possible the Foreigners’ Authority which is the central point for all immigration issues in Germany.
