POPNeuro

What is POPNeuro?

The POPNeuro program is dedicated to the dissemination and popularization of neuroscience in kindergartens, schools, universities, urban organizations and events for all age groups.

POPNeuro was developed in 2013 by the Physiology Research Group (GPFis) of the Federal University of Pampa, Brazil. In 2023, the POPNeuro program was launched by the MKN work group at Chemnitz University of Technology.

Why is the POPNeuro program important?

In recent years, advances in neuroscience have helped to clarify many aspects and operating principle of the nervous system, particularly the brain. But the information is not being adequately communicated to the public. In addition, the media and marketing have used the word “neuro” to valorize products and services, but with false information. Our aim is therefore to educate the public by providing correct information simply, clearly and understandable.

What are we doing?

The POPNeuro team organizes activities in schools and kindergartens to develop neuroscientific concepts and to raise awareness about mental health in an early stage of life. Furthermore, courses are held for teachers and Coaches on the application of neuroscience in education and sports. For the local population, the dissemination of topics related to the application of neuroscience in daily life is carried out through lectures, workshops and the publication of newsletters.
