Overview
Welcome to the Bachelor’s program in Digital Engineering, which combines the core concepts of electrical engineering and information technology with the demands of an increasingly digitalized world. Through mandatory German language instruction, the program also offers international students excellent opportunities to integrate into the German job market.
During the first two years of study, classes are conducted in English and provides a solid foundation in the fundamentals of mathematics, physics, electrical engineering, and information technology. Any lack of German language skills can be acquired during the first four semesters as part of the program.
Starting in the third year, the program is then conducted primarily in German. In the fifth semester, students choose one of two specializations. The options are Automation and Control, with a focus on automation and control engineering, and Information and Communication Systems, with an emphasis on communication systems and information processing. These specializations allow students to develop their own professional profiles and provide targeted preparation for entering the workforce or pursuing graduate studies.
Career opportunities
Graduates find interesting career opportunities in many fields, both in the German and international job markets. Depending on the chosen specialization, careers in the following areas are possible:
- Automation Technology and Robotics
- Software Development
- Telecommunications Industry
- Environmental engineering
- Transportation engineering
- Aerospace
In addition, consecutive master’s programs following the completion of a bachelor’s degree offer the opportunity to pursue further qualifications. At our faculty, this is possible in several programs, both in the field of automation and control engineering and in the field of information and communication technology.
Course structure
Basic modules (1st to 4th semester)
- Fundamentals of Mathematics and Physics
- Fundamentals of Electrical Engineering
- Fundamentals of Information Technology
The foundational coursework in the first four semesters is conducted in English. If students do not yet possess German language proficiency at the C1 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), they must acquire this proficiency during the course of their studies.
Specialization modules (5th and 6th semester)
Starting in the fifth semester, students must select a specialization, which determines the additional required and elective courses. At this stage, the program offers the opportunity for individual specialization in one of the following areas:
- Automation and Control
- Informations and Communication Systems
Elective modules (1st to 6th semester)
Courses in the fields of language, mathematics, electrical engineering and information technology, computer science, economics, and the humanities and social sciences, which can be selected based on personal interests. There is also the option of an eight-week internship in industry.
Bachelor’s Thesis Module (concurrent with studies in the 6th semester)
Starting in the fifth semester, instruction in the program is conducted primarily in German.
