Chemnitz, founded in 1134, is situated in the heart of Saxony. The city is the third-largest one in Saxony and is designated as "City of Modernity". Fast developed at the time of Classical Modernism, it became the "Manchester in Saxony" and was giving impetus to the development of business and science. The Mechanical Engineering grew to a very high level and a lot of patents were designed till today.

The influence of the cultural and architectural Modernism can be seen at many places so that Chemnitz is a city with many interesting facets today. Fascinating architecture reflects the changing times and spirit of those things which have formed the city: industrial monuments, redeveloped Wilhelminian style residential quarters such as Kassberg, Villa Esche or the city centre, which has been modified in large parts since the German Reunion. It was constructed by Helmut Jahn, Hans Kollhoff and Christoph Ingenhoven and bridges the gap from yesterday to today and tomorrow.

Please check the website of Chemnitz for further information about the city.
