Registration for Examination
For all academic records – such as written examinations, any written assignments, oral examinations and any other academic record – you must register at registrar's office (Zentrales Prüfungsamt, ZPA) in advance. This is not the case for any preliminary tests.
All registration forms can be found here.
To make sure whether you should register or not, you should check up-to-date examination regulations [de]. For every module there is a detailed description where you can find information about content of the module, requirements to be awarded with credit points and the examinations to be taken. For detailed information on lab courses please contact the person in charge.
Please keep in mind that you always register for examination in the ongoing semester. In case you are planning to take an examition in the upcoming semester, you should cancel your registration. If you forget to cancel your registration an examination will be considered as „failed“.
For most of written examinations you will be able to register at ZPA only during the registration period (please check this link). Before registering for an examination please check your admission in advance. You can check your admission status online (you will need your username, password and your matriculation number/enrollment number). In case you find "Zugelassen unter Vorbehalt" ("conditionally admitted") next to your matriculation number, you should make sure whether you have passed all required preliminary tests. This will be necessary to be able to take the examination on examination day.
Schedule for oral examinations is usually determined by the examiner. In any case you should contact the examiner in advance to any compulsory oral examination. You can register for oral examinations beyond the registration period at ZPA. However you should hand in your registration form at ZPA at least one week before your oral examination date. Please bring the notice of administrative decision (it is also the form for minutes of the examination) to your oral examination. The notice of administrative decision for your oral examination can be recieved at ZPA during consultation hours. If you hand in your registration form at ZPA in person, typically you will get the notice of administrative decision immediately.
Lab courses, other academic records
In case that a succesful participation in a lab course is supposed to count as an examination for a whole module (according to module description) you should register prior to the beginnig of the course. If you find "Benotete Praktikumsversuche einschließlich Protokolle" (graded experiments inclusively lab journal) in your module description as a description for a module examination, when you do not have to register at ZPA. In case of „Bericht zum Praktikum“ (lab course report) you should register at ZPA (that is the case for module TPC in the 6th semester). For lab courses in the first semester it is not necessary to register at ZPA, but you should register for courses which count as module examination according to description in your module catalogue.
Deregistration for examinations
You can always cancel your examination registration at ZPA at least one week in advance to your examination date without giving any reasons. If you cancel your registration shorter when a week prior to your examination you should hand in a cancellation form at ZPA as soon as possible. If you cancel your examination on the examination date, you will have to hand in the following form to the ZPA. This cancelation form should be filled in by a doctor with a detailed description of reasons, attesting you uncapable for taking an examination.
In case of illness during an examination you should contact the examiner immediatelly and subsequently a doctor. Also you will have to send a note about the cancellation to the ZPA.
Lab courses: In case you are not able to attend lab courses due to illness or indisposition, you should contact the person in charge immediately. Schedule for lab courses is usually determined individually, typically it will be possible to find alternative dates. However you should get a medical certificate in any case.
If you do not pass an examination you should use the opportunity to inspect your written examination. For further information and advice you should contact the examiner or the person in charge. You should be able to access your files within a year after the examination date, however some examiners do have their own deadlines for consultations on examination questions. To resit an examination you will have to register at ZPA in advance again. In case you fail an examination twice, for your third attempt your examination will be checked by two independent examiners.
Problems with PC
If you have any problems with using a PC you should contact board of students of chemistry (FSR Chemie) or the university computing centre (Universitätsrechenzentrum (URZ). There are various licences for software freely avaible for students or you can get a discount on software purchase. You can check the following link for further information.
For any trouble with using WiFi you should attend introduction courses by URZ or contact FSR-Chemie.
There is a mailing list for first-year students. If you join the introduction event by FSR (board of students of chemistry) at the begining of your study program you will become a member automatically, else you should write a short email to FSR-Chemie.
University Mail, Home directory
After your enrollement as student at TU Chemnitz, you will recieve a University-email address (first_name.last_name@sYYYY.tu-chemnitz.de, YYYY- stands for matriculation year) and a home directory for data storage on the university server. You can find both here.
There are several computer rooms you can use. You will also find some computer working places at the library. For further information see the following link.

Your individual equipment should include at least a lab coat which you should purchase in advance. Protection googles will be provided by the Institute of Chemistry. You should also have you own locker at university (15€ deposit). One locker can be used by two person. There will be some collective lockers for first-year students, too. You should also think about glass breakage insurance, in case of a breakage of any glass equipment during you lab courses. Broken equipment has to be replaced in some cases. All the equipment items you will be able to find at consumables and chemicals storage or you might have to contact the glass blowing workshop.
At the begining of winter semester there will be a compulsory safety briefing for all students - briefing date will be announced via mailing list. For some lab courses you will also have an additional safety briefing, which will be announced by the person in charge. Students starting their study program in summer semester please contatc Dr. Steffen Hemeltjen for individual arrangements.
During the introduction event by FSR Chemie for first-year students you have the opportunity to register at university library. Except from books, journals, media etc. university library also provides quite working places. Most of scientific material for you individual studies, preparation for lab courses or examination are avaible at the university library. You can manage your user's account, use the search option (online journals, databases etc.) or just renew deadlines anytime via internet.
Student Identity Card
You can use your Student ID to pay at the cafeteria or to use a copier e.g. at the university library. Your Student ID also allows you to use public transportation service in "VMS"-zone and DB local train. For further information please contact FSR Chemie and StuRa (Student Service Organisation.
Schedule, Compulsory Optional Subjects
You can find all schedules under the following link. You can stick to suggested study schedule, however you have to make sure which requirements you should fulfil to be able to successfully finish a module. Please, keep in mind that you might have to register in advance before taking any examination (according to the module description in the module catalogue).
For lectures, seminars and exercise courses typically you will not have to register unlike in case of lab courses you should contact the person in charge prior to the begining of the course.
In the third semseter you have to choose a cumpulsory optional subject. Choice options are "Business Administration", "Electrical Engineering", "Occupational and Time Management". If you want to attend English language courses you have to take a placement test prior to this (further information). For the course "Occupational and Time Management" you will have to contact a person in charge and register for the course (for further information [de]). If you have any problems with the registration or you need some help please contact FSR Chemie. In general you are allowed to attend more than one cumpulsory optional subject, however you will have to decide in which subject you will take an examination in the end. As soons as you register for a certain examination you will be registered for a corresponding module at the same time. Once you have taken an examination for a certain module, you are not able to change it anymore and have to pass (max. tree examination attempts).
If you are interested in taking additional examinations beyond your study curriculum, please contact ZPA for further information and the admission proceedure.
