- Management of information is gaining rising importance in knowledge intensive projects. Many information sources in the web provide feeds for easy accessibility. While there are lots of software tools for personal feed consumption collaborative approaches are still rare. This research project consists of two parts and can therefore be implemented by a team of two students.
- Part one focuses on the theoretic basics of social feed readers. It presents common feed formats (RSS, Atom) and gives an overview of related research and existing tools. The section finishes with a blueprint of an ideal nice-to-have social feed reader using common principles of social software like tagging, social networking, social recommendation and microblogging.
- The second part focuses on an implementation using the Java-based Open Source tool XWiki Watch. First of all the basics of the XWiki platform and other tools of the XWiki family should be described shortly. The XWiki Watch tool should be installed on a given platform. Afterwards the following issues should be examined: spectrum of functionality, level of applicability, licence policy and customisation possibilities. The section finishes with an evaluation of XWiki Watch and an outlook for possible enhancements.
- Finally, the students should compare findings of their parts in a joint conclusion.
- The paper can be written either in English or in German. Good skills in Java programming are required for subproject two.
