The Bachelor programme of Business Administration is setting up the basis of an economic education which, on the one hand, prepares undergraduates for lower and middle management positions of the regional economy and, on the other hand, represents the foundation for the consecutive Master programmes.
Thereby, we provide a broad range of professional fields for economic experts which build on the good reputation of graduates of the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration. The Faculty's scope is to widen these prospects in future. |

Nowadays, modern information and communication systems act as central nervous systems of companies and non-profit organisations by supporting them with the coordination of business processes and decision-making. Their integrative nature makes sure that business processes are executed in a frictionless manner, saving time and costs. In today's global competition, corporate management would be unimaginable without such a nervous system which is developed, controlled and analysed by business data processing specialists.
Due to the all-round training graduates are offered interesting challenges on the national and international labour market anywhere information needs to be processed. Fields of activity comprise producing and manufacturing industries, commerce, banking and insurance industry, service enterprises, consultancies and software companies as well as public service.

By creating the Bachelor and Master Business Administration and Engineering programmes the Chemnitz UT takes into account the demands of particularly small and medium-sized businesses which request both a sound business-management knowledge from graduates employed in engineering departments and accordingly a technical knowledge from graduates working in economic departments. The assignment of highly specialized engineers in the production process and specialized consultants in the business management often does not appear to be efficient; it is rather necessary to have decision-makers who are able to assess the consequences of their decision in both economic and technical divisions adequately.
The Bachelor programme offers a sound scientific education in economics and business administration, engineering and in the interdisciplinary field of industrial engineering. This degree enables the initiation of a continuative scientific education and/or of a career aimed at high positions in businesses. Likewise, students are prepared for the direct career entry in lower and middle management positions by being trained in an interdisciplinary occupational field, choosing specific engineering and economic subjects as well as by improving language skills and social skills.

Taking into account the demand for competent experts on Europe, the Chemnitz UT has created the Bachelor’s programmes European Studies with orientations towards cultural studies, social sciences and economics. The focus is on problems of European integration and aims at socio-cultural, socio-scientific and economic specialisations. Not least due to the geographically favourable position of Chemnitz, all three study programmes focus on the region of Central and Eastern Europe.
Expertise on Europe is imparted in the field of politics, economics, law, public administration, history, social geography, literature studies and linguistics, as well as in intercultural communication. The emphasis lies on Central and Eastern Europe and on the process of the EU’s eastward enlargement, including the knowledge of a Central or Eastern European language. Given the increase in the demand for experts on (Eastern) Europe by private and public employers projected for the next few years, this cross-disciplinary education offers good prospects on the labour market to graduates.

They are trained in theories and applications in the fields of public finance, market-competition policy, monetary economics, industrial economics and the theory of value, international trade and economic policy.

Within the Master Finance programme, students exercise in the field of financial management which ought to be applied in companies operating locally, regionally, nationally and throughout Europe. Background to current developments in the banking, finance and insurance sectors and therefore the related university research and education is the loss of significance of national boundaries as well as the increase in knowledge in the field of mathematical algorithms and electronic information technologies.
In the course of transition the demand for professionals dealing with traditional interfaces such as mathematics and economics has increased (e.g. risk management). In addition, there is a demand to analyse these complex networks partially and/or completely and communicate the interference in the programme.
