In the 19th century, research at the „Königliche Gewerbschule“, the precursor of CUT, was already closely linked to the economy already and brought about important innovations. This has not changed. Outstanding developments and studies are still reported by today's media. Be it micro sensors for cars and planes, low-vibration pneumatic hammers or printed polymer electronic circuits; researchers from Chemnitz work successfully in cooperation with the industry.
Researchers in economics and social sciences and arts enjoy a very high standing and are often consulted by decision makers from politics, economics and culture, or conduct comprehensive studies on their behalf.
The special research and transfer fields of the German Research Foundation (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft) demonstrate the excellence of research at CUT. Together with postgraduate programs and competence centers, they provide the foundation for numerous innovations.

Good equipment ensures better research and training

Good equipment ensures better research and training

The Chemnitz University of Technology offers state-of-the-art equipment for students and scientists. The computer facilities at CUT are excellent. For example, there is a PC workplace for each student of Natural Sciences.
The equipment of the laboratories is on an equally high level. The Center of Micro Technologies including its clean rooms is an acknowledged partner of numerous international chip producers. In the “Virtual Reality Center" of Production Engineering of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, constructions and layouts for manufactures are visualized three-dimensionally in a new quality.
The university's library allows students to access approximately 1.2 million books and 1,900 journals as well as 4,000 electronic journals.
Research and training are further supported by a state-of-the-art computer center and the CUT Language Center, which imparts a high level of technical terminology competence to future graduates.

A university of short distances

A university of short distances

Unlike most other German universities, CUT has a campus. Most lecture halls, libraries, laboratories, residence halls, sports grounds and cafeterias are within five minutes of reach. For the off-campus destinations, the reasonable “semester ticket” entitles students to use buses and trams round the clock. Moreover, a notebook equipped with a radio network card allows you to access the world wide web.
Neither do you have to worry about accommodation in Chemnitz: ten residence halls can be found on campus, which means 20 bed places per 100 students (the German average is 11). All dormitory rooms have direct access to the internet. However, one will also easily find reasonable accommodation off-campus.
