Empathetic language talent in office as new Commissioner for Foreigners
Attracted by the German education system: Since February 2014 Andreea-Beatrice Rusu acts as additional point of contact for international students, PhD students and scientists at TU Chemnitz

Each year, students, PhD students and scientists from around the world come to Technische Universität Chemnitz to study, to get a doctoral degree or to do research. In order to provide additional target-group-oriented assistance with problems or questions, TU Chemnitz is delighted to have a new Commissioner for Foreigners since February. Born in Romania, Andreea-Beatrice Rusu advises on social and intercultural issues and acts as interface between international students, PhD students and researchers and institutions of TU Chemnitz.
Andreea-Beatrice Rusu studied from 2009 to 2012 at Babes-Bolyai University in Cluj Napoca in the area of European Studies and International Relations. During her Bachelor studies she spent a year with the Erasmus Programme at the Otto-von-Guericke-University at Magdeburg. As she was to a high extent attracted by the German higher education system, she came back to Germany after her Bachelor´s degree and since October 2012 she is doing her studies at TU Chemnitz within the Master degree program "European Integration”.
"I am looking very much forward to my work as Commissioner for Foreigners. I will definitely gather a lot of intercultural experiences and can also imagine to work in this field permanently after having graduated", Rusu said. In addition to her excellent German language proficiency she speaks English, Spanish, Hungarian and Portuguese. The young woman can also benefit from her language skills during her work for the International Office (IUZ). Since 2013 she supports the IUZ as "PhD assistant” by acting as point of contact for international PhD-students of the Faculty of Humanities, the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration and the Faculty of Behavioural and Social Sciences. "I can very well understand that settling down in a foreign country and at a new university is often difficult and implies many challenges. Learning a new language, getting used to a new culture or to internalize new working processes may sometimes be difficult. I understand the international students, PhD students and scientists very well because I was exactly in the same situation and now I am very happy to give them help and advice."
For the moment there are no official office hours but consultation appointments with Andreea-Beatrice Rusu can be arranged via e-mail to auslaenderbeauftragte@tu-chemnitz.de.
